West Rowan and North Iredell both came in to last nights game looking to get their 2nd win in the NPC to have sole possession of 2nd place. Both teams exchanged chances to take the lead, but each defensive side proved to be tough to break. It wasn’t until 11 minutes in to the game that North Iredell played a long ball behind the Falcon defense to a forward who placed it in to the far corner. Even after going down 1 – 0, West continued to have chances to bring the game back even. Then with 8 minutes remaining in the half, Selma Mehmedovic controlled a rebound from a shot by Mackenna Clifton and found the back of the net to even the game at 1. The 2nd half proved to be a physical 40 minutes that saw both teams suffer injuries and hard tackles. As the game was coming to a close and overtime seemed to be on the horizon, West played a ball to forward Grace Webb who beat her defender before colliding with NI’s goalkeeper. In the collision, the ball bounced to Rustyn Orbison who put the ball in the back of the open net and gave the Falcons the 2 – 1 lead and the win. West turns its focus to Friday’s game against a very talented Carson squad.
