The Lady Falcons got the start they wanted against Davie High School. The early pressure led to quality scoring opportunities within the first few minutes of the game. West was finally able to get on the board with a goal by Lejla Mehmedovic from a pass by Mackenna Clifton. The momentum was on West’s side as they continued to control the game in the first half and get chances to increase the lead. As the first half was coming to an end, Davie had found the right combination to counter and put pressure on West’s defense. Davie finally found the back of the net to bring the game even at 1. The 2nd half saw both teams exchange opportunities to break the tie, but near misses and big saves kept the score level. With a minute and a half remaining in the game Davie saw their opening to take the lead as they played a shot over the defense with its sight set on the top corner, but Ryley Corriher played the shot perfectly. Corriher get just enough on the ball to tip it up off the crossbar and back in to play where she was able to collect the rebound. This big save preserved the tie and the improved result in West’s 2nd match with Davie. West returns to play on Friday against Concord at home. Kickoff at 5:30.
